Ahead of Saturday’s match away at Fleetwood Town (managed by Joey Barton) in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Keep it tight at the back. Fleetwood have a couple of in-form goalscorers in their team in Saunders (5 goals in their last two games) and Camps ( 5 from midfield already this season). Given either of them half a chance and they will punish us. To that end, we also need to stop giving away soft free-kicks in and around the penalty area which is something we have been guilty of doing this season. Fleetwood will punish us if we give them such opportunities.

2. Make the most of our set-plays. I suspect that we’ll have a reverse situation from last Saturday’s game where we will have far less of the ball than they will. Our best chances could come from a dead ball situation. We had a few such opportunities last Saturday and when it came off we scored. Many other such opportunities though were wasted with poor delivery. At the moment I’d suggest we are putting in good balls every 1 in 3 times. That needs to be upped to 1 in 2 minimum.

3. Put Tom Hopper in cotton wool for the rest of the week. He might not score as many as some supporters would like but he is a key component in our attacking plan. He is our only real back to the goal attacker who can hold the ball up and bring the midfielders into the break. Nothing against the possible alternatives but their game is not naturally that of Tom. We are a better attacking unit when he is leading the line and if the knock he received against Rovers keeps him out we will struggle to make an impact in open play.
