Following last night’s 1-0 win away at Shrewsbury Town in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what Chesterimp said:

1. Keep Bridcutt, Grant, and McGrandles fit and able to play 90 minutes and there’s no better midfield in this division. Do that and we’ll either put the wind up Posh and steal promotion from them on the line or, more likely, be a major challenge to any side we encounter in the play-offs.

2. Eyoma and Montsma as the reserve center back pairing are growing by the game, and this clearly affects Palmer’s confidence too. From the collective rabbit in headlights performance at Oxford, when it was ‘when’ we concede, not if, they’ve now kept 3 successive clean sheets for vital 1-0 away wins. Walsh and Jackson remain the best and most and experienced centre-backs, but Montsma oozes class and TJ is growing by the game. We have 4 quality centre-backs to see out whatever the remainder of the season has in store and can have confidence in all of them.

3. Callum Morton’s experience this season will not have been what he expected. But coming back from a long injury lay-off and a bout of covid, his performances in playing a back-to-goal role, in several complete games in succession until a late substitution tonight, has been remarkable. He’s the player whose goals helped Northampton into League 1 last season and who we expected to be banging them in for us. He hasn’t done that, he’s barely had a goal-scoring opportunity in recent games, but his contribution has been immense and his development as an all-round player is clear for all to see. Now, Callum, just a hot streak of scoring to see the season out.
