Michael Appleton: “It’s another game for us to try and put a marker; see where we’re at, a third of the way through the season.”

Michael Appleton kept it short and sweet ahead of Rochdale. Well, it is his birthday and he’s bought the players and staff 48 Krispy Kremes.

You can discuss what Michael Appleton said earlier today HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! We have also published a Lincoln City v Rochdale Quiz, which can be found just below the summary. Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Injuries: Adam Jackson still has a sore knee and MA will know more on Monday after a scan. Joe Walsh is fit but is being managed carefully between games. Liam Bridcutt’s scan revealed a low-grade calf tear. Whilst not serious he will need to recuperate for between 10 days to a fortnight.

Rochdale: MA on their victory versus Plymouth, “As crazy as it sounds I’m almost happy that result happened in a way because hopefully, it will sharpen everyone’s mind and attitude to the game”.

Rochdale are a very patient side who will play through the thirds but also have strikers who are very willing runners. MA categorizes Rochdale as another one of those teams that have low expectations, play with freedom and seemingly do well every season.

“It’s another game for us to try and put a marker; see where we’re at, a third of the way through the season”.

Mentality: MA highlighted again the importance of being ‘at it’ every game and respecting the opponents if consistent results are to be achieved. Part of that is accepting that opponents will have a good part of the match and as per the last two league fixtures, the opponents can set up to be very difficult whether that is through pressing or physicality for example.

Having that in mind, the message from MA to the players during post-match analysis this week, has very much concentrated about the mentality side of it as opposed to simply focusing on things the players did well or not so well.
