“We seemed to just sit back and had very little urgency going forward.”

Views from Merthyr Imp following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against Coventry City in League One: “Got home just after 9pm today which is earlier than I usually manage, and without so far looking at what anyone else has written:

The first half, we seemed to just sit back and had very little urgency going forward. Couldn’t argue with the 1-0 deficit at half time.

Second half we at least made a fight of it and deserved a goal for the early 15 minutes or so pressure after the break.

Presumably, O’Connor wasn’t fit enough for more than an hour’s play. Interesting to see that Grant was again moved into the middle following the substitution rather than the obvious straight swap with Morrell – of course, we were chasing the game. Was surprised Anderson rather than Hesketh was taken off in order to give Payne a go.

Not for the first time this season we probably deserved a draw but still lost.”

More views from the Match Thread:

Luke Imp: “A sprinkling of something up top and I don’t think we’ll be far off turning a corner and start picking up towards being solid mid-table.

In attacking areas, I’m not sure Hesketh, Akinde or Anderson have too much of a future under MA and I don’t think he can pin Grant down to his best position, as we all can’t. Payne isn’t getting too much game time now either. Beyond that, Pett isn’t getting a sniff either.

I’m assuming the plan is to play Morrell all over Xmas and keeping him fresh for that? IMO, neither O’Connor or Chapman are ‘pressers’ or have the bite that Morrell does so it’s one or the other in there for me, not both.”

PerthImp: “Game of two halves. Too much respect for them in the first half but we competed much better in the second half, although we rushed our passes sometimes and moves broke down. Eardley, Toffolo played really well. Bolger & Bossie also played well. Personally, my MoM was Josh Vickers. Made two or three excellent saves and interceptions and really bossed his box. Much better second half but still didn’t really cause them enough problems or test the keeper sufficiently. Unlucky lads – as Bruce would say “Good Game”.”

sedgleyimp: “Back at home and the only word for that was tepid. Other than the ten minutes after half time we just didn’t seem at the races at all today. A lack of energy especially in the first half. Plans to either bring it out from the back or knock it long resulted in possession being constantly lost.

Poor all round in all honesty.

Have to say though that again it has come down to small margins as Coventry weren’t that much better other than using the pitch better as it was a wide one. A day that we missed Bruno.”
