Last season we finished 9th? I am pretty sure we finished 9th anyway.

It’s his first managerial experience and I think this is clear see. He’s still learning on the job.

Who Are The League One Managers? No.5: Jake Buxton (Burton Albion)

What are your hopes and expectations for the 2020/21 season?

Honestly, I think it would be an achievement to stay up in League One.

One(s) to watch?

I think Charles Vernam is a very direct player and likes to take people on. He’s been a great positive this season. Sam Hughes has also been very good in defence and attack.

Hull City, Portsmouth, Doncaster, Ipswich, Charlton and Peterborough.

Which teams do you think will finish in the bottom four in League One?

Unfortunately, Burton Albion, Wigan, Swindon and Northampton.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

Lincoln are a good footballing side, they have a good young manager with plenty of experience and they have good loan players!

What do you think the score will be?

3-0 to Lincoln.

Random fact about your Club?

We’re only been relegated once since we formed in 1950.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

Brennan Johnson – He’s a good attacking young player and scores well. He’s looking like a good bet for the national team. Lincoln fans seem to be really raving about him.

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Burton Albion supporter?

Proudest: Winning the League Two title and beating Derby County in the Championship.

Most Embarrassing: Being 2nd from the bottom in League One and losing to Barnet in the FA Cup.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

The most underrated player in my opinion is Stephen Quinn. He plays as a defensive midfielder in front of the defence and although he’s in his mid-30s he just keeps a cool head, makes interceptions,

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

No, we don’t have a supporters trust at the club.

Which was your least favourite match involving Burton Albion?

When we played Present North End away and we had to win the game, but we lost. So we got relegated!

We don’t have a Former Players Association but we have a Brewers Hall of Fame for formers players.

It’s the home of brewing and well renowned.

Burton used out known for its breweries. Are there any left?

Yes absolutely! I am sure who owns the breweries now but they’re still definitely in use.

How are Bostwick and Eardley doing?

Bostwick is doing well as a centre back, he got injured at the start of the season but has since made improvements. Eardley has mainly been used as a right-back, he was playing well but he’s been out of the team recently due to the improved form of other players.

Ben Robinson has been the rock on which Burton Albion has been built for 45 years, but he is in his 70s now; do you fear for the club when he eventually vacates the chair?

When he does eventually decides to retire, I feel he will only do this if he knows he’s left in good hands.

With a population of around 75,000, why do Burton find it so hard to attract support? The proximity of Derby and Birmingham?

We’re a small club and find it hard to attract support because we do have huge teams around us. Derby, Leicester and West Brom just to name a few.

Nigel Clough is believed to have stepped down to safeguard the club financially, but did he really need to go? Could he not have suggested a lower wage instead?

He left but he also took his chief scout (his brother) and his assistant coach to save money and jobs at the club. This was seen as very amicable. If it hadn’t have been for COVID-19, I feel he wouldn’t left anyway.

You managed two years at Championship level quite recently. How realistic do you think is it for a relatively small club to be able to compete properly in that league now?

Honestly, I feel it is difficult for small clubs like Burton to compete at Championship because we don’t have the financial backing.

  • Steve says:

The best thing about Burton is the road out.
    Q. In a town of 75,000 why is Burton’s support so poor?…….A. The town has a massive Asian population and they prefer cricket.
As for the Championship, Burton did ok on their limited resources but when they got relagated the two teams above them were found guilty of breaking the fair play rules and got a paltry fine. one of those teams is still in the championship and the other is now on the verge of relagation to the national league
