“To get the very best out of this potentially 20-25 goals a season striker he needs a partner.”

Ahead of Saturday’s match at home against Oxford United in Sky Bet League One, we asked our members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. I’m going straight to the elephant in the room. Play 2 up front from the start. I don’t think that Tyler Walker enjoys the lone striker role though he gives it his all. To get the very best out of this potentially 20-25 goals a season striker he needs a partner to allow him to be making runs into the places where he can cause the most damage to the opponents, the 18-yard box. Too often he is isolated and finds himself on one of the wings chasing a ball. When he gets it there is no-one in the centre of the box to find. The net result is a promising attack fades away. Away to Wycombe and briefly in the second half yesterday when Walker and Akinde were on the pitch together we looked a far more dangerous side capable of scoring goals. Start both together from the kick-off. Oxford defenders won’t enjoy that.

2. Keep the forward momentum of Tuesday’s second half going. I know that football can’t always be played at a break-neck speed but we are better when we look forward and attack with pace. We have skilful players who can dribble and get past opponents and Tuesday nights second half showed when we do this we are very dangerous.

3. Oxford’s away form is not good, but the same could have been said of Bristol Rovers last Saturday. They can ship a few goals so get at their defenders and results can come. They can score a few though and in Ben Woodburn have a player who will be a very good player in a few years time and he will need to be watched very carefully.
