Following last night’s 1-1 draw at home against Manchester City U21s in the EFL Trophy, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what Rob the Imp said:

1. Not all young starlets can necessarily finish off a goalscoring opportunity. I for one was surprised when on several occasions a Manchester City player had a good opportunity to get a shot on target and instead spurned the chance and worried the corner flag or top of the stand.

2. Our second string are eager to play. Whether or not it is in their natural position, our players waiting in the wings want to get involved and are capable of doing a good job for us. Our defence last night was an unusual one given our usual formation and personnel but they performed admirably.

3. Sometimes players make mistakes. It’s only natural. If a keeper spills a cross the world sees and criticizes it, much less so with outfield players. Ross did his job well for the majority of the match and made up for his error with a good penalty save in the shootout; much less mentioned I’m sure will be the times when the likes of Roughan, Gotts and Archibald gave the ball away. Mistakes happen, but it is the response of the player afterwards which means the most.
