Following last night’s 3-1 defeat at home against Portsmouth in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what NottyImp said:

1. We have some key players, who, when they are missing perhaps make more difference than we might realise. Bridcutt is certainly the stand-out in that respect and we always look better when he is on the pitch. But this is to be expected with a young, developing team.

2. Teams will suss us out and try to counter our style. Portsmouth did this superbly, harrying, chasing, closing down super-quickly and employing physicality to the max. Other teams will learn: don’t let Lincoln play.

3. We don’t give up. It was noticeable last night that even at 3-0 down, heads didn’t drop and we were still trying to find a way back into the game and were rewarded with a goal. That is a good sign in a young team and something we can build on. We’re just at the start of MA’s journey with us and it’s still on track.
