“The unacceptable behaviour of The EFL came home to roost in this game.”

|

Following last night’s 3-1 defeat away at Doncaster Rovers in the Leasing.com Trophy, we asked our members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what hulloutpost said:

1. Harry is not a right-back; not yet anyway. Nor for that matter is the other Harry a centre half.

2. The unacceptable behaviour of The EFL came home to roost in this game. In the space of a fortnight, an Imps side having to play at maximum revs., through no fault of their own has come up against a fully rested and full-strength Doncaster side. It handed the home team a significant advantage in the league match and in spite of a game effort by the City players the result was a foregone conclusion once fatigue and the effects of a much-changed side began to set in during the second half. Well done EFL for screwing Lincoln over in not one but two competitions. It takes a breathtaking level of ineptitude to achieve that.

3. At least through necessity, it was an opportunity to try different formations and people in different positions to see what may or may not work going forward. To be honest there were not too many positives from the experimentation. The positional changes as mentioned didn’t really come off but at least the players will have learned from the experience. The partnership of both Akinde and Walker playing together couldn’t really be judged as fatigue had set in throughout the side at the time that was tried so it remains to be seen (on a level playing field) if that option has legs. On a positive note, we saw what a consummate footballer young Connolly is going to be. He exhibited signs of maturity and class in very trying circumstances and I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes onto be a key player this season.
