Lincoln and Doncaster have a long competitive history that stretches all the way back to October 1891, when a John Irving hat-trick sent Doncaster home empty-handed in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup. The sides have met in no fewer than ten competitions over the years – FA Cup, League Cup, FL Trophy, Midland League, Division Three (North), Division Three (North) Cup, Second Division, Third Division, Fourth Division plus the various war leagues during the Second World War. In peacetime competition, Lincoln have 51 wins to Doncaster’s 39, with 32 draws.
