Following tonight’s 1-1 draw away at Ipswich Town in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

1. It’s difficult to switch it back on when the tempo has been dropped. First half tonight we were very good. Passes were made and overlapping attacks caused them problems throughout the first 45. Half time we seemed content to allow them to have possession some distance from our goal and to a degree it worked. It was quite similar to the home game in so much as we had identified Nsiala as being pretty slow and poor on the ball and usually resorted to a long crossfield pass which more often than not failed to hit it’s target. That tactic was evident in the second half and as I said it worked. Ipswich didn’t look like creating a chance from open play tonight and it was only a poorly defended set-piece that ultimately cost us the win. What was clear from that point was that we tried to inject that bit of speed back into our game but it is very difficult to get the legs going again. That said the harrying and pressing very nearly paid off with the two late chances for Johnson and Rogers.

2. James Wilson would have suited our current style of play in central defence. A player who possibly didn’t get the opportunity to cement his place in our team his limited appearances deserved. Tonight you could see that he is comfortable on the ball and capable of bringing it forward. Possibly one that got away?

3. It says something as to our position that we have come away from an away game at Portman Road a little disappointed by a 1-1 draw. The cup game of a mere four years ago seems so much further in the past. I expect that Ipswich will also be very happy with their gained point.
