“I know he’s destined for better things one day so we just have to enjoy him while he’s with us.”

And now for the answers provided by Tom:

How long have you supported Plymouth Argyle?

33 years.

Where did you finish last season?

3rd in League Two – though we had a good chance of winning the title before Covid intervened!

What do you think of your Manager?

Most love him. He’s a young, progressive, charismatic type who seems set for a bright future. The doubters don’t like his love affair with 3-5-2 and refusal to tweak it under any circumstances, but he’s a breath of fresh air after the dour Derek Adams.

Who Are The League One Managers? No.17: Ryan Lowe (Plymouth Argyle)

What are your hopes and expectations for the 2020/21 season?

We need to halt the League One/League Two yoyo-ing. We’ve spent more time historically in the second tier than any other and we need to get back there. It probably won’t be this season but we’re on the right track with Ryan Lowe.

One(s) to watch?

All our best attacking moves go through Danny Mayor and George Cooper. Mayor is a Rolls Royce of a player but isn’t universally revered because he doesn’t convert his undoubted skill on the ball into goals often enough. Luke Jephcott is a home-grown striker who has a happy knack of scoring goals regularly.

Which teams you think will finish in the top six in League One?

Not much different to how it looks now – with maybe Portsmouth and Doncaster in there instead of us and Lincoln. Still early days, though.

Which teams do you think will finish in the bottom four in League One?

Northampton and Burton were both shockingly bad against us, so them. Rochdale must surely finally go down this season, and hopefully the Northern Tinpot Minnows Fleetwood and their scumbag manager too.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

I mainly think of the Cathedral. I have actually been there now I think about it and it’s stunning. The recent FA Cup run and the Cowleys. I don’t know much about Lincoln’s current manager or players to be honest, but I’ll know more after our game.

What do you think the score will be?

I’d be happy with a draw, as I would be away to pretty much anyone in this league. Yes, there aren’t any home crowds to contend with, but our players still have to travel further than anyone else in the league.

We’ve only lost one match so far – 1-0 away to Hull – so we’re going to be competitive in this league.

Random fact about your Club?

We’re supposedly the biggest city in Europe never to have had a top-flight football club.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would
it be and why?

Alex Palmer was brilliant for us last season and many fans were gutted we didn’t sign him again. We’ve got a 21-year-old homegrown product called Mike Cooper in goal now and he’s started the season well, but he’s no Palmer (yet).

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Plymouth Argyle Supporter?

Proudest: Drawing 0-0 at Klopp’s Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Most embarrassing: Losing in the FA Cup at Dorchester on live TV. That was probably our lowest on-pitch moment during our admin days.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Conor Grant has flown under the radar since he signed from Everton two years ago. He seems to be finally staking a claim for a place in the first-team and most fans are coming around to him.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

The Trust was hugely influential during our dark days of administration a decade or so ago. They’re still around but we’re so well run as a club these days that they play a minimal role from what I can see.

Which was your favourite match involving Plymouth Argyle?

Beating QPR 2-0 to win promotion to the Championship back in 2004. What a day that was. Sheffield Wednesday 1-3 Argyle from that same season was also pretty special.

Going further back, I can also remember us beating Leeds 6-3 and Man City 3-2.

Which was your least favourite match involving Plymouth Argyle?

Burnley knocked us out of the play-offs in 1994 even though we finished 12 points above them, then a few seasons later they relegated us at Turf Moor. We didn’t like them for a while.

Any defeat to the minnows from Ex*t*r is obviously deeply embarrassing.

Do you have a Former Players Association at Plymouth Argyle?

Yes: http://www.argylelegends.co.uk

What is the best thing about Plymouth?

Its location is both the best and worst thing about the city. You can’t beat being by the sea and miles of open countryside, but it’s a pain getting anywhere, and we struggle to attract and/or keep footballers – most of whom seem to come from up North!
