“His decision making has improved significantly.”

Ahead of Saturday’s match away at Blackpool in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what Rob the Imp said:

1. Play the way we want to. Last season it seemed as though Michael Appleton was adamant in forcing his preferred style of play into use with the players already at his disposal, plus a few January additions, with decidedly mixed results. I will be honest in saying that I wondered where we were headed under such a system as at times we played ourselves into trouble. What a difference now with his own players in and a (highly unusual) pre-season to get them playing together properly. There can be few supporters left who still question MA’s style decisions.

2. Make good use of the more experienced heads in the squad to bring along the younger players. The past few games have shown the nous of the likes of Jackson, Bridcutt, Jones and Hopper and just how important that can be in-game management. Even young Harry Anderson is looking wiser for his multitude of appearances for us despite his young age, and his decision making has improved significantly (if not under different instructions from MA).

3. Use fresh legs to avoid anyone burning themselves out. The schedule is relentless this season and managing player’s fitness is going to prove key for the long term success of the season. We have the luxury of more options in some positions than others, but there is no better time to give less prominent squad members game time than now when we will need them all. Expect to see Howarth, Johnson, Elbouzedi, Bradley and Archibald making sub appearances very soon to share the load.
