Ahead of Friday night’s match away at Gillingham in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

You can discuss what has been said in this article HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! We have also published a Lincoln City v Gillingham Quiz, which can be found just below the three things. Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Take the next few days easy. Last night’s win was very good, but there it was a very hard slog on that sodden pitch. Professional players are well-conditioned nowadays and the introduction of sports scientists means that clubs understand the importance of recovery. There will be some tired legs though. Some players are still in that post-Covid recovery period and two games in 72 hours just might be a big ask. So much rests on those backroom staff most of us don’t know to get the recovery and conditioning right over the next few days. That will mean actual training won’t be happening…………..but (point 2).

2. Corners and set plays. They have been below standard of late despite seemingly having more opportunities from dead ball situations occurring of late. We need to re-assess what we are doing from these situations as recent choices and delivery just hasn’t been there. Grant has been very good on the whole, but if he’s off his game with them, there never seems to be an alternate taker considered. Opposition managers will study and counter Jorge’s dead-ball delivery. They might be a little more concerned if a variety of taker is considered.

3. Substitutions. I think our bench tomorrow will have a very different look thanks to the business done earlier this week. Quality has been added. Now I know that MA isn’t one to make substitutions just because he can, but sometimes we need that spark which isn’t coming from tired players. We still have effectively half of the league season still to play in a little over three months. That’s a lot of football in a short time period. In-game tactical substitutions will be needed more as we get to the business end of the season.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
