Ahead of tomorrow night’s match away at Burton Albion in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

You can discuss what has been said in this article HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! We have also published a Lincoln City v Burton Albion Quiz, which can be found just below the first three things. Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Play our game, not there’s. Burton have been a revelation since Jimmy Floyd was re-appointed. It does show that if you get the right manager in, teams will improve. They are a much better team than the one we thrashed earlier in the season. That said though they are not to be feared as opponents. Respected certainly, but we are man for man better than they are. Concentrate on our performance rather than just set up to combat them.

2. Attack with speed and purpose. It’s not our style to hump the ball into the box and I certainly don’t see that changing come Tuesday night as it clearly won’t work. What will though is to get their defence backtracking on their heels. If we use our pace and passing to get at their defenders, some of whom are getting on a bit they will struggle to keep our strikers under control. If it descends into a battle, we all know that they have players who will come to the fore during the game

3. Put the game to bed if the opportunity arises. The win on Saturday was very hard-earned, but it should have been that bit more relaxing if our shooting boots had been packed. We probably used up all our luck during that second half. We all know that a 1-0 lead is quickly lost and such profligacy in front of goal must be eradicated.

Which club did Nigel Clough join after resigning as Burton manager in January 2009?

And here’s what Impalex said:

1. Find 16 fit players at least; our injuries are such that it may well be difficult to do so, however. (This is a little ‘tongue-in-cheek’ but you see where I am coming from.) I suggest that Sean Roughan might get a recall, after all, he was good enough to play a number of league games earlier in the season. If recovered from his illness, I’d also love to see Freddie Draper on the bench again and, depending upon circumstances, maybe be given his début.

2. When moving forward on the break, don’t just blindly (and perhaps selfishly) go for goal, be aware of others coming up in support who might just be in a better goalscoring position than whoever is on the ball. It is a team game, after all.

3. Earlier in the season, I seem to recall that we scored fairly frequently from corners and other set pieces but for some reason, these seem to have dried up. I can’t put my finger on why this is the case and I am sure that this sort of thing is practised in training, so why are we not scoring from them? In other words, some kind of rethink needs to happen with a few new moves put into place.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
