Following Saturday’s 1-0 win away at Bristol Rovers in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

1. Momentum is a huge thing. I’m typing this at a point where this time last week we were 2-0 down at home to Blackpool. Since that point, we have scored 7 and conceded 0. We have accumulated 7 points at a time in the season where many were wondering where the next one was coming from. That last 20 minutes a week ago could just be a huge point in our whole season.

2. We have players up for the battle. Today’s match was not one for the purists. It was a game which certainly kept your attention if not necessarily for all the right reasons. What was clear though was that we have players willing to put themselves on the line for this team. Poole nearly losing a rib whilst defending a corner, Montsma throwing himself at everything that that Rovers threw at him. Even Edun deciding to engage in a bit of tag wrestling in support of Johnson. The players are up for the last few weeks of this season.

3. Bristol Rovers and League 2 deserve each other. That was an ugly performance by them today. You might argue that if you are battling for your lives in a relegation fight, sometimes you can’t be subtle, but today they took that to ridiculous levels. They had two tactics. Hoof the ball and kick the opponents. We have seen throughout this season that such tactics in League 1 will get you precisely nowhere other than in the bottom 4. It may be that this time next season they will be involved in a promotion battle from League 2 by employing those tactics. We though have a manager and coaching team who understand long term planning far better.
