Emerging From a Difficult Period: The period post-Oxford, involving Covid, the closure of the training ground and results beforehand, had all contributed to making it a challenging period of the season. It was therefore no surprise that MA had been delighted by results achieved in the last week. “It’s been a good week last week and 7 points in a week has given everyone a little bit of a lift and a huge boost going into the last 6 games”

Bristol Rovers Reflections: The resilience shown by the players had been particularly pleasing. The performance had been nowhere near the levels MA has come to expect from the players so far as aspects like build-up play and passing were concerned. However, it had been an extremely young side that had taken a result, needing to dig deep and find a way.

In some past games, experienced players have been around to pull the youngsters through but they were not there to do that against Rovers. “We’ve shown a different side to us without certain players in the team, which was really important and pleasing”.

Injury Update: “I know we’ve had a few challenging games and a few challenging moments this season but I think tomorrow night might top it off”. Those were the thought of a rueful MA as he revealed that now both of the fullbacks in Cohen Bramall and Regan Poole were 50/50 adding to the never-ending injury list. Bramall has an ankle injury which he had played through versus MK Dons and taken a further heavy landing on, during the Bristol game.

A small piece of better news concerned Jorge Grant. He has been doing some recent extra training and dependent upon how he feels personally, he may be available to play a very limited part versus Burton.

Burton Albion: MA praised the brilliant work that Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has done since he took over the Burton reins. It is a very different side than the one Imps brushed aside in December. Burton present as are a far more resolute outfit which has then allowed them to build from the back and develop a more expansive style resultingly. JFB has introduced a lot of new players, with Burton going on to show their qualities by defeating some good sides in the past two months.

“What he has done first and foremost is made them very hard to beat”.
