APR from 1-0 home win against Southport

City got back to winning ways on Tuesday, defeating former Aston Villa fullback Alan Wright’s Southport side 1-0 at Sincil Bank.

Although there were one or two hairy moments, it was a pretty pleasing display all round reflected in a selection of positive scores. The best of those came from City’s marauding fullback Sean Newton, who started a lot of attacks for the men in red and white and ultimate set up the only goal of the game. Newton achieved a mark of 8.06 to continue his fine run of scores, with everyone giving him a mark of 8 or 9 – except for Julestheimp who only gave him a 7!

Second place then goes to the other fullback Tom Miller (7.82), who of course netted from Newton’s cross and excelled defensively too. BBH 11 highlighted him as the Imps’ man of the match, praising his excellent goal line clearance and effectiveness going forward, while several posters such as Blake and Snats noted how much he got up and down the right flank.

The bronze medal this week then goes to Alan Power, who scored 7.41 which actually included two 9s from Dutch1585 and CrazyTuba. The City captain played some great passes in what was certainly one of his best outings this season, with posters noting his effectiveness in the centre of the field.

The only starters who failed to score 6 were Todd Jordan and Jake Sheridan (5.88 and 5.76) continuing a bit of a trend of the wider midfielders getting lower scores. Both of course did jobs for the team and with the worst marks near the score for an ‘average’ display, it can’t be too bad! Substitute Nick Wright scored 5.35 having fluffed his lines from the penalty spot.

In terms of posters, and regular readers of these articles will be unsurprised to see that CrazyTuba was the most effusive in his praise of the Imps, scoring City at an average of 7.33 including three 8s and a 9. Only two other posters got to scores of 7 or above – dogchewedthehandle (7.00) and tornado imp (7.17). At the other end of the spectrum and nlondonimp was the least excited by City’s display coming in at 6.17, a score that included three fives. The next lowest average mark was 6.33.

That means the average City performance was 6.73 – with SalfordImp and Impede both closest to that score (both giving City an average mark of 6.75).
