September has been a much harder month for City than a fantastic August. Away trips to Luton and Hereford yielded no points, while a home loss to one of the early surprise packages in Salisbury meant the month kicked off in disappointment.

City did however snatch a useful point at the death away at Barnet and won their other two home matches against Southport and Hyde, keeping two clean sheets in the process. That’s how the team fared, but how did the individual players get on?

The highest scorer this month was captain Alan Power (average 7.20), who has really impressed since returning from suspension. Power appeared in five of the six City matches this month (missing the Salisbury defeat) and has really driven the team forward. Three marks over 7 and two other solid scores of 6.75 and 6.5 show his consistency, and he really ought to have taken that penalty against Southport and have a goal to show for his troubles!

Second place then goes to an incredibly consistent performer in Tom Miller (average 7.04). Miller stooped to head home his first goal of the season against Southport and has been rampaging up and down the right flank ever since. 6 against Salisbury in a poor team performance was followed by scores of 7, 7.82, 7.25, 7 and 7.19. That kind of run is why he topped the ratings charts last season!

The bronze medal this month goes to Sean Newton (average 6.91). Newton has been very impressive from left back and often the catalyst that has driven City attacks. He could very easily have won this month if it were not for the 5 he was awarded at Hereford where we only had two posters to review the match, but he has been solid in all the other games. Man of the match against Hyde and Southport and the joint man of the match against Salisbury, it has been a great month for City’s new fullback and he has certainly been receiving plenty of praise on the messageboard! That means the top three were entirely different to last month’s (Andrew Boyce, Ben Tomlinson and Waide Fairhurst), although Boyce (6.51) and Tomlinson (6.81) still turned in good performances.

One or two players have struggle to impress posters this month, which is perhaps understandable in a slightly tricky month. Nick Wright is still searching for his first goal at the club and hasn’t impressed so far (average 5.03 from two sub appearances and one start) while Waide Fairhurst (average 4.25 one start and one substitute appearance) found it tough going against Salisbury and Hereford. Danny Rowe and Luke Foster’s two starts only yielded a mark of 5.29 and 5.25, while Todd Jordan has battled through a bit of criticism to score 5.58, a pretty respectable return with improved scores at the end of the month.
