Who is Khano Smith?

Khano Smith was a cut above in the 2-1 win over Rotherham at the running track today. Playing on the left wing he laid on both goals and at times ran rings around Rotherham in a pretty much sensational debut. Simon Clark was impressed, taking in the game on his way to another game at 7pm ( not to mention Burton V Derby County tomorrow). Smith is known for his pace and his superb crossing ability though he can play down the middle or as a centre forward. He has just been released by New York Red Bulls after falling foul of a salary cap rule. Their loss could be our gain, as this guy has an International pedigree to boot. At 28 he has the experience and box-to-box skills we are looking for and will lose few aerial tussles at 6` 3″. Our guess is that Clark will move for Henrik Ojamaa (Derby) on a one-month loan whilst international clearance is sought for Khano. This is likely to be bad news for LJL as both are versatile forwards who can also do a job on the left.

Khano scored the winning goal against the MetroStars, which led the Revolution to the MLS Conference Championship in 2005. Be prepared for brilliance one minute and below par performances the next. , however just because he was released in July 30, 2009 by the New York Red Bulls, it does not mean that he couldn`t do a magnificent job for the Imps.

There is the small matter of international clearance but he is a regular Bermuda International. He has appeared in 7 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches for Bermuda, scoring 3 goals. Smith enjoys celebrity status in his homeland, and following the retirement of Shaun Goater from top-level competitive play is the island’s most famous footballer.
