How Long Have You Supported Chester?

Since 1960.

Last Season’s League Finish?

12th.

What Do You Think Of Your Manager?

Everybody thinks he’s the dog’s gonads, but I’d like to see him have a Plan B. For Instance when we had Ben Henneghan sent off after after 23 minutes at Woking we carried on playing as though we had 11 men. Result lost 5-2.

Hopes/Expectations This Season?

Some of our more deluded fans are expecting a play-off push, but I think we’ll do well to equal last season’s 12th place finish.

One(s) To Watch?

Craig Mahon is coming into some form, but is injured. Tom Shaw is starting to fire and I personally like full back Ryan Higgins. Ben Henneghan is being played out of position, but is potentially our best player, but has been sent off this season and has dropped a few clangers of late.

You didn’t sign too many players in the summer but seems to have brought in well with the highly rated Tom Shaw and an experienced head in Ian Sharps. How have they done?

As said Tom Shaw is becoming a very good player and has scored in last 2 matches. Ian Sharps is an old head, experienced, but can be caught out by pace as happened at Bromley.

Just checking your home and away from and it’s quite a contrast. One loss at home and not conceding too many compared to 5 losses away from home shipping goals left, right and centre by the looks of it. Are there any thoughts on that?

I’m really pleased that out home form is improved and our only defeat was to was to FGR with a late winner caused by inability to deal with a pacy forward (O’Connor). The away form is really worrying. We didn’t really deserve anything at Barrow (we seem to concede just after we’ve scored). We lost 3-0 at Bromley but had more chances and shots than them. Defensively we’ve gone to pieces after not conceding in our first 2 away games.

Since we’ve been in the Conference, Steve Burr always seems to have adopted a ‘we’ll score more than you’ approach. Has that continued into this season and would you prefer it to be a bit less gung-ho?

That’s right. At the moment we’ve not got enough goals in us to adopt that tactic. We had high hopes of young James Roberts, who had an excellent debut against Wrexham, but sadly his 16 year-old brother Ben was killed in a motor accident last weekend and we can only offer heart-felt condolences to the Roberts family. I suppose a balance between the two would suit me. We conceded 76 goals last season and we’re more or less on course to repeat that.

Thoughts on Lincoln City?

Love going to Sincil Bank. Next year’s trip will be my 8th visit. Also love the city. Unusually we did the double over them last season. I think Imps are stronger this season and are an outside shout for the play-offs. Seem to have virtually recruited a new squad. Striker Rhead is doing the business, as are other new signings. I think Chester will do well to draw tomorrow.

Score Prediction?

1-1.

Random Fact About Your Club?

I’m old enough to remember the Famous Five. In an era when formations were 2-3-5 Chester had 5 forwards who all scored 20 or more league goals. They were Elfie Morris, Mickey Metcalfe, Gary Talbot (still around the club), Hughie Ryden and Jimmy Humes. Sadly Elfie Morris died about 2 years ago, but all the others are still around.
