The last time The Imps played today’s opponents Accrington Stanley away from home was on Saturday 23rd April 2022, in front of a crowd of 3,053, including 657 City supporters. The hosts won 2-1 that day, thanks to goals scored by Colby Bishop (34′ & 59′). The hosts went down to 10 men in the 61st minute when goalkeeper Toby Savin handled the ball outside the area, and Lewis Fiorini scored a consolation goal for The Imps in the third minute of stoppage-time.

Ahead of today’s match, we have done a Q&A with an Accrington Stanley supporter, so thank you to Tony for answering our questions! (Article discussion link & our Accrington Stanley v Lincoln City Match Thread)

We have also published a quiz about the last time the two sides met at the Wham Stadium, which can be found HERE, and there is also another 15-question quiz at the bottom of this article! Have a go at both and share your results on Twitter if you’re on there!

How long have you supported Accrington Stanley?

Really all my life, I was born on Stanley St in Accrington so you can say it’s in my blood.

What do you think of your manager?

He does an outstanding job, what he does with one of the smallest budgets in the EFL is incredible. Probably the most underrated Managers in English football. When the sports bar at the ground is named after you, I think that tells how people feel about him.

What were/are your hopes and expectations for the 2022/23 season?

At the beginning of the season, I was hoping for top ten and perhaps an outside shot at the play-offs but with up to 19 injured players at one time league survival has to be the goal.

One(s) to watch?

I think our keeper Toby Savin is an outstanding shot-stopper and is an experienced keeper in League One and is only 21, he’s destined for the big time. Also, Tommy Leigh, in his second season at Stanley and for the most part as played out of position as a striker is our leading scorer and is a quality talent.

Which teams do you think will finish in the top six in League One?

Plymouth, Wednesday, Ipswich, Derby, Bolton, and Peterborough.

Which teams do you think will finish in the bottom four in League One?

Forest Green, Burton Albion, Cambridge, and MK Dons.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

We have played Lincoln twice at your ground after poor runs and our performance has improved, you are in a run of poor form at the moment, but you always play us tough. We wish you well once you leave the Wham.

What do you think the score will be?

I’m going for a 2-0 win for Stanley with Pressley and Leigh scoring.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

Ben House, because we played half the season with no striker.

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as an Accrington Stanley supporter?

My proudest moment is a toss-up between getting back into the Football League in 2006 after 44 years and winning the League Two Championship in 2018.

The embarrassing moment the milk advert – Exactly.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Midfielder Liam Coyle, is not flashy but a really good passer of the ball and one of the first names on the match sheet.

Which was your favourite match involving Accrington Stanley?

I would have to say winning 1-0 at Luton in the 2017/18 season. Billy Kee scored in injury time and it pretty well clinch the title for Stanley. The funny part is the coaching staff were telling him to run to the corner flag as they would have settled for a draw.

Which was your least favourite match involving Accrington Stanley?

It hasn’t happened yet.

Do you think you will be stronger after your transfer business in January?

Yes, for sure as we brought in two young promising strikers in Pressley from Brentford and Nathan Butler-Oyedeji from Arsenal.

What is the best thing about Accrington?

The people, they are really friendly and welcoming to all visiting fans to the Wham Stadium.
