“When we click we can beat anyone in this division.”

|

Following Sunday’s 5-3 win at home against Ipswich Town in League One, we asked our members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. When we click we can beat anyone in this division. This league is still very tight with anyone capable of beating another when it’s their day. Sunday was an example where chances made ended up in the back of the net rather than just wide or over. It helped us that Ipswich came to win which allowed us to find gaps that other teams block with banks of nine defenders but the team should be applauded for exploiting those gaps as they did.

2. We offer more threat when the midfield is closer to Walker. Often Tyler can be a lonesome and frustrated figure ploughing his furrow with the nearest teammate being 15 or 20 yards away. On Sunday it looked to me that Hesketh was playing almost like a second attacker and that combination worked. It also allowed for Grant and Anderson to come infield rather than hugging the touchline which caused them problems.

3. When the transfer window opens it has been said that we look forward to who MA brings into the club. To me though there are three key players who I want to be here come February 1st. Joe Morrell, Tyler Walker and Jake Hesketh. Any of those were deserving of the man of the match and such performances can only delight their parent clubs. We are a better team when these three play as they can and as demonstrated against Ipswich. A good transfer window for us would mean they are all in our red and white stripes for the remainder of the season.

And here’s what NottyImp said:

1. Appleton likes to give players a run in the team before making decisions. He did this with Payne and Chapman and has now done so with Hesketh, who finally came good against Ipswich. He seems very methodical in his approach to team-selection and team stability.

2. Contrary to that idiot NottyImp, Walker is a decent striker at this level and – as others pointed out to the numpty NottyImp – if decent balls are put into the box, he will score. The key will being able to sustain that to create the opportunities.

3. Fannying about at the back is a bad idea. A really bad idea. We don’t have the ball-playing defence for this, to be honest. I have no problem with getting it out to the full-backs but allowing Bolger a chance to display his silky ball-skills is not recommended.
