“We might not be winning games yet but the performances are an improvement.”

|

Ahead of Saturday’s match at home against Sunderland, we asked our members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what Riiiiik said:

1. We need to put the positive things we’ve done in the Manchester United U21s game and the Blackpool game into the Sunderland game. We might not be winning games yet but the performances are an improvement prior to Michael Appleton taking over.

2. We need our game face on from the kick-off and cut out the early goals we give away, each week, which then puts us on the back foot and chasing the game. Possibly try 5 at the back? I’m not up on football tactics but if we keep letting goals in with 4 across the back then playing with an extra defender might stop us conceding. I appreciate we’re less likely to score and it might stop us from carrying out option 1 above but a dull nil-nil draw would be a welcome result at the moment.

3. Get Aaron Lewis in there somewhere. As has previously been posted; he hasn’t had a poor game yet, when he’s been picked to play. Michael Appleton will have watched the videos before he took over and should know he can do.

Who Are The League One Managers? No.21: Jack Ross (Sunderland)

And here’s what Chimpimp said:

1. Pick the right side. That means not making too many changes. The whole essence of a team is that the whole is better than the parts. Players build understandings and combinations. When things aren’t going well it’s easy to call for lots of changes but it’s usually an improvement in the method rather than the personnel, that is likely to help turn the corner.

2. Get to half time without conceding a goal. When you have a poor run the first goal is crucial. “Here we go again” begins to be the feeling when a goal goes against you. Make Saturday different. Start making things happen differently. Start with a first-half clean sheet.

3. Leave the referee alone. He’s not the best. We don’t need to tell him. Deep down he will know the truth. “You don’t know what you’re doing” can be saved for another day. If we are nice to him, he might just make up for Mr Boyesons’s efforts a couple of weeks ago and give us a couple of debatable decisions which win us the game. Here’s hoping.
