Following Friday night’s 1-0 defeat at home against Rotherham United in League One, we asked our members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what NottyImp said:

1. Messing around at the back has cost us another goal and, arguably, a point against the top team. Rotherham didn’t really create anything other than the goal chance and a few scrambles in our box, so the fault lies entirely with us and the mistakes we are making at the back.

2. In spite of that – and for the sake of balance – the messing around at the back tactic worked on one or two occasions and we sprung a couple of decent attacks. In the long-term, though, the balance sheet will have to start showing a net positive impact. At the moment, it definitively doesn’t do so.

3. We played well and actually held our own against a big, dirty, physical side of genuine Beasts & Monsters (their no. 17 was a behemoth!). We created a few decent chances. That is something to take away from the game, at least.

And here’s what syimp said:

1. If we can keep Bridcutt fit, he looks to be an excellent addition to the line-up. Looked accomplished in his defensive role and capable of providing the defence-splitting passes we have been lacking. A great foil for Morrell. Could be the difference between just avoiding relegation and finishing comfortably in mid-table.

2. I’ve mentioned Scully before, but after his short debut, my enthusiasm for the lad is undimmed. Looks like he could fill three roles, number 10, 9 or on the right flank. Has already proved he has an eye for a pass sent a tantalising cross over for the last kick of the match, loves the physical side of it and oozes enthusiasm for the game.

3. Not for the first time, we’ve not looked out of place against a top-six side. Yes, we still have issues playing out from the back, but there were glimpses of the Promised Land that awaits when this new team gels properly. Glass half full again here.
