Following Saturday’s 1-0 win at home against Ipswich Town in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Discipline in play is vital. We have not conceded a goal in the last three games and what is clear is that the defensive side of the team begins at the front irrespective of who plays that lone role. Today, whenever Ipswich decided to make those 30 odd passes to each other in their own half our set up, was clear. Players know where they need to be to prevent their attacks. The banks of defence is maintained throughout. Gone are the years of wondering where (Insert many a name here……..) have gone whilst the opposition are afforded the freedom of the pitch.

2. Defenders in this division really don’t know what to do if you have a speedy attacker willing to run straight at them with the ball. Brennan Johnson has won 4 penalties for in the last few weeks doing exactly this. Any contact from a scared defender is going to leave the referee with a decision to make and often they will give that penalty.

3. I’m not sure exactly how many members of staff and from the board who are actually inside the ground in home games, but they do seem to make quite a bit of noise from the IFollow coverage and they are really appreciative of the little things. Many a round of applause was heard from hard-working tracking back today, so those few who are inside are doing what they can until they let us, noisy ruffians, back in.
