Lincoln City 1-0 Ipswich Town: Match Stats & Views From The Forum

|

Views from imps_joe following Saturday’s 1-0 win at home against Ipswich Town in League One: “We certainly deserved the win today. I’m not sure we were as free-flowing as we can be at times, but its a really excellent mixture of sharp, slick football and combative play. It really is the best of both worlds at the moment. The penalty was soft, but I think any fan would be calling for a penalty. Very clumsy defending. Bridcutt is superb, breaks down play and starts moves going. Harry Anderson and Jorge Grant are different players to last season.

Just gutted we can’t be there to witness it all. That feeling of jeering Nolan off after another shocking challenge and spineless performance.”

JT_LCFC: “The biggest difference more so first half, but a theme in general. In possession we looked to play forwards, Ipswich were happy to play sideways. Possession with a purpose.

Ipswich has a strong wind behind them second half, but despite the game becoming a scrappy affair we never looked overly threatened.

Fantastic stuff, typified by Harry Anderson endeavour last 5-10 minutes.”

Merthyr Imp: “I was afraid we might pay for not putting the ball into the net with the chances we had in the first ten minutes or so, especially as it seemed fairly even for the rest of the first half. But in the second half, as others have said, Ipswich seemed only interested in making sure they didn’t lose and hoping to nick a goal from somewhere. It did seem to me that they only had one ploy from corners – hit the ball beyond the far post for a player to head it back. It was maybe the first or second time when it nearly worked, which I think was when McGrandles headed off the line. But it got less effective, culminating in the one late on which went out of play.

Midway through the second half when it seemed as if we were getting nowhere I was thinking it might be worth bringing on Scully in place of Anderson as he’d seemed to have faded out of the game going forward. Once we’d gone in front though – keep him on! Because as we’ve seen so often in the past he’s just the player we want to hang on to a lead. And his play was crucial in the last ten minutes-plus. I also thought Hopper for Johnson was the right substitution at the right time (I’m sure Michael Appleton would be pleased to know that) as we needed to hang onto the ball up front in those closing minutes.

It looked more of a penalty than the one against Plymouth.

Difficult again to choose the best player, as once again it was a real team performance. Let’s hope this difficulty continues.

Leaving aside the number of goals he’s scored, I think Montsma is looking more and more a quality player every game he plays.”

Max Arnold: “I’ve gone back to being a ten-year-old this evening and have spent far too long staring at the League table this evening, I’ve got a bit too excited and have now signed up for the imps lottery and ordered the Imptoons squad cards from eBay, my only disappointment was I couldn’t find a Lincoln city king size duvet cover.”
