Ahead of Saturday’s match away at Shrewsbury Town in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Manage their set-pieces. In the home match against them back in October, they scored from a long throw arrowed into our box. From my recollection of that game that was their primary attacking threat. Every time they were in a position to hurl it in from the sidelines they did and it caused us problems. So on Saturday we need not only to deal with these set pieces but consider how we defend in general. During that match in October despite it being pretty clear what the threat was, we still conceded throw-ins’ in dangerous positions. We need to consider this when making clearances and tackles and stop, wherever possible, conceding throw-ins in those positions.

2. Keep up the pace of the game. In our cup game way back in August, we played quite well in the second half and took a deserved two-goal lead. The key to that period of the game was our speed of passing and movement off the ball. They simply could not deal with it. Accepting that their squad and team now might not be the same as it was that night, I still feel that they are a team who will struggle to deal with a sharp passing game. Get that right and couple it with intelligent movement off the ball and we stand a very good chance of a result come 5pm.

3. Be clinical. Shrewsbury have only conceded eight goals in fourteen league games since the turn of the year. They have certainly tightened up at the back of late and don’t give too much away. So chances might be at a premium for us on Saturday and we will have to be clever in opening them up. When chances come they really need to be taken. We might only get two or three decent chances and if they are wasted, we won’t get the result our usual visits to the New Meadow yields
