Ahead of Saturday’s match at home against Plymouth Argyle in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

You can discuss what has been said in this article HERE, as well as get involved with our pre-match threads: You can post your score predictions, discuss the starting XI, and predict the attendance!

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Maintain the narrow front players. Having only heard the victory at Bristol City via the radio I can only repeat what was said during that match in that we tweaked the formation so that the front three were playing much closer to each other. It worked at Ashton Gate and really should be the way forward. It gives two benefits. The lone striker isn’t fighting a hopeless battle against three defenders and it gives the wing backs that little bit more space to actually play as such rather than full backs who occasionally get over the half way line. We should trust our selected wing backs to get forward and whip in some crosses. The extra bods in the centre will lead to chances.

2. Play with a high tempo. Two chalk and cheese performances over the last two games show that you cannot play football at a slow pace. The opponents will easily deal with slow attacks as they can get into position with ease. High tempo attacks don’t give them such opportunities and that is how we can beat the league leaders.

3. Expect Plymouth to be hurting from their cup defeat and want to give a reaction. Think of how we reacted to the FA Cup defeat at Chippenham and expect Plymouth to want to make amends for their loss at Grimsby. They are a good team irrespective of their last game and are deservedly at the top of the table. They have won 13 out of 17 league games and score on average 2 goals a game. Ryan Hardie and our former loanee Morgan Whittaker are goal threats and will need to be managed properly otherwise they will punish us on Saturday. Don’t give them opportunities.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
