Ahead of Saturday’s match away at Burton Albion in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Play with energy and intensity from the start. The last two home games have seen quite slow starts to the game by us. That seems to have often been the case when we have been playing at home and the opposition looks to keep it tight. This can result in our attacks at times becoming ponderous and obvious. However, we have the ability in the team to attack with great speed of thought and skill, attributes which were very much on display in our last away game at Cambridge. Bring that level of energy to the game from the kick-off at Burton and we will stand a very good chance of 3 points come 5pm.

2. Stop the crosses at source. The loss against Ipswich came because we failed to cut out a cross from out wide. Rotherham caused us similar problems days before. Burton are likely to play with wide midfielders and have Hemmings through the middle and he is capable in the air in a similar way to how Taylor was for The Millers and Bonne for Ipswich. So we need to ensure that the service to him is stopped at source. This will involve all players assisting our full-backs.

3. Put Burton’s defence under pressure. Saturday will be the first time that we supporters will have had to give Michael Bostwick the deserved standing ovation for his years with us. Every Lincoln supporter appreciates what he did for us in those 3 seasons. If anyone going on Saturday even thinks that as an ex-player he should be booed they need to give their heads a proper wobble. But there is a reason that Bossie didn’t get another contract 18 months or so ago. He is 33 now and is susceptible to injury and attacking him with pace can be the way to beat him as a defender. We know that a lumped ball into the box will be meat and drink to him, but getting him on his toes and having to deal with play on the deck is the way to get past this giant of a man.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!

We know that there are people that would like to contribute towards the development of The Stacey West Stand but won’t be able to put in the minimum of £500.00 towards the bond, so this is a great way to raise some money together and donate to this project! We must defend higher and close down our own centre of park when teams are coming at us, leave them less room moving forward, and putting us closer to opponents and the ball. This will give us more chance of winning the ball sooner with a good attacking option. Not talking up the opposing team and their Mngr, and how good they may be. Lets talk our own team up because that’s who we support I believe, and lets get on with winning the league.
People have said to me let’s look at the situation at 12 games, ok so let’s be more positive at getting to that 12 games , and be in a decent position in the league. We can do that even with the late start to the season, and more decent refereeing decisions, and also with a fit starting 11, and not with a player who got a knock during warm up taking a chance. Lewis Fiorini in my opinion is our replacement for Grant, and therefore should start more games to get an understanding with Hopper. ( A more settled team)
