Ahead of tomorrow night’s match away at Morecambe in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Stop the supply to Cole Stockton. I don’t want to suggest that Morecambe is a one-man team, but if we stop Stockton from getting a chance on Tuesday we will win the game. He has scored 8 goals in the league this season and leads the charts in our division. He averages a goal roughly every 100 minutes and scored a very good brace on Saturday. If Morecambe are to stay in this division much will rest on his shoulders. So on Tuesday night, we stop Stockton we simply stop Morecambe, and with our potential goalscorers, we will win.

2. Get it wide and get it there quickly. On Saturday there were occasions when we slowed down the play just a little too often. I appreciate that scoring an early goal will have that affect, but you could see that Burton as many teams do, defend quite narrowly. This meant that spaces were available for our wide players, be that the wingers or the full-backs. That space wasn’t exploited as well as it could have been. If we manage to stretch the Morecambe defence we will get in behind them and that will lead to chances for our onrushing midfielders.

3. Be clinical. Saturday’s game should have been done and dusted well before the last few minutes when we could easily have conceded another goal and dropped two points. We missed some good openings on Saturday and they simply have to be taken. With respect to Morecambe, this is a game we should be looking to get all three points from, but if we leave the shooting boots back in Lincoln, that will be a little bit more difficult.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
