Michael Appleton re-capped on the Burton Albion game before turning his attention to the upcoming mid-week Morecambe fixture.

You can discuss what Michael Appleton said earlier today HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Burton Albion: MA reflected on the most pleasing aspects of the performance and result, arising from the previous weekend’s fixture at Burton.

“The character the team showed, obviously with the amount of players and probably more importantly the amount of experienced players missing from the group”.

MA made the point that Teddy Bishop at 24 was possibly the oldest Lincoln player on the pitch with the average age of the side approximately only 22.

“The character that they showed to one, play when they did and as well as they did at times; but then to deal with crosses and balls into the box later in the game was pleasing”

MA drew parallels to the battling performance seen against Rotherham, except this time the experienced players were unavailable due to injury. He explained the importance of facing tests like Burton and the need to come through them to bolster the strength and belief that is possible to do the same in future similar circumstances.

Oisin Gallagher: MA spoke about the young Irish midfielder who had appeared on the bench for the first time at Burton. Oison has been training with the squad for the past month whilst awaiting (international) clearance to come through. He will not be featuring much for the first team this season but he is a real prospect for the future and it is good to expose him to experiences to assist with his development. Oisin is a box-to-box midfielder who gets around the pitch well, can put his foot in, and has a decent range of passing.

Morecambe: There were no new injuries arising from the game at Burton but neither will there be additional players returning (with the outside chance of Liam Bridcutt) for the Morecambe fixture. The substitutions seen in the Burton clash were not related to any knocks. It was simply done to protect the players from cramp or the risk of injury in future games as several of the team were having to play themselves into (match) fitness.

Morecambe themselves, like most of the other sides promoted from L2 last year, are acquitting themselves at their new level. They have done great, are well organised, and have a striker in red hot form scoring plenty of goals.

“They’ve scored a lot of goals this year; yes they’ve shipped a few but they’ve scored a lot and we need to be mindful of that,” with MA going to call upon the same resolute attributes to be displayed as at Burton.

With the same attacking group of players available as the last fixture, MA had this to say about the possibility of an open game. “We don’t know really any other way than trying to go and win the game regardless of being home or away”.

Players on the Road: MA was highly amused and bemused in equal measure, at the habits of modern footballers in the context of using the away fixtures to develop team bonding.

“We try to encourage them to spend as much downtime together as we possibly can; do what we can to make that happen. But these days they pair up with their roomies but all of a sudden, it’s who’s best on FIFA or Call of Duty, or all those type of games that are out there”.

We know that there are people that would like to contribute towards the development of The Stacey West Stand but won’t be able to put in the minimum of £500.00 towards the bond, so this is a great way to raise some money together and donate to this project!
