The Imps have today announced the signing of former Swansea City, Crawley Town and Milton Keynes Dons defender Joe Walsh following the expiry of his contract. Below are the views from one of our members, sedgleyimp:

“The signings since Monday have all been with a view to strengthening our defence. Jackson and Eyoma the other day have now been followed by the signing of the experienced centre half Joe Walsh from MK Dons. The 28-year-old Welsh defender adds to what is now quite a decent looking defensive set-up.

This leads me to wonder if we might just be looking at a different formation this year. 3 big Centre Backs supported by 2 wing-backs on the right and left just might be the best option for us with the players that have been brought into the club. Aaron Lewis at Right Wing Back and either Max Melbourne or Tayon Edun on the opposite flank might just suit their individual games also. Could such a formation also allow for a better deployment of the likes of Jorge Grant and Anthony Scully, who were sometimes left alone and anonymous out wide?

Interesting times ahead.”

Impala: “Eight defenders now? Arguably with a goalie, striker and maybe winger added, we’d be close to having strong cover in every position. With so many midweek games we’ll need a bit of rotation and cover everywhere.”

Imp13: “Must be 5atb. 5-3-2 potentially.

GK; Lewis, Bolger, Jackson, Walsh, Eden/another LB; McGrandles, Bridcutt, Jones; Hopper, Scully.

You can see Anderson and Elbouzedi playing off a striker like Hopper too.”
