“The team still needs our support in whatever way we can.”

|

Yesterday should have been an exciting day with the fixtures released for the 2020/21 season. Finding out when we’re playing Hull City home and away for the first time since the 2003/04 season should have been exciting, but it just wasn’t. The day the fixtures come out I usually spend time looking at hotels and trains, but that wasn’t the case. I’d be amazed if we’re able to attend any away matches during the 2020/21 season. Anyway, below you will find the views of sedgleyimp:

The fixture release day is that day when normally supporters scrutinize and review each match in minute detail. Routes are planned for away trips. Notes are made as to which days you might need off work. Partners of supporters are cared for with more precision than normal as we make plans for day release tokens. This season though is unlike any other. The fixture list is two months later than normal and has been produced with the first game a mere three weeks away. We supporters will be absent for the first games.

So like many, my initial attention has gone to the post-Christmas games. If we are allowed to attend this season, realistically that is the best opportunity for it to happen. An away trip to Hull in that week between Christmas and New Year just might be that game where away supporters and home supporters can both attend if you believe anything Boris says (Yes I know!!!). Beyond that, trips to be bigger stadiums such as Sunderland, Ipswich, Charlton, Wigan have all been scheduled for 2021, so again there’s a glimmer of hope of getting to those games.

What we as supporters need to remember though is that even if we can’t watch matches in person, the team still needs our support in whatever way we can. Don’t just count down to your first possible attendance, but get behind the team when they open up at home to Oxford. It’s going to be an odd season I expect. Lots of games crammed into a shorter period and with the constant possibility that games get called off for many reasons, often at short notice. Get behind the lads and the manager. It’s a tough league, a fact only confirmed when you actually see the names of the opponents we will be facing Saturdays and Tuesdays, but one which we have a more than decent chance of a good season, which just might end up with us being able to relegate Peterborough at their last home game of the season!!
