“The Robins got off quite lightly.”

|

Views from berksimps following Saturday’s 2-0 win at Cheltenham Town in Sky Bet League Two: “The berks have now returned to their various homes and the general view is that this was a comprehensive victory but we missed some reasonable chances and were reluctant to shoot at times. In short, The Robins got off quite lightly.

No doubt Cheltenham arrived at their ground thinking that getting a point would be a good result. Vickers first save was in the 89th minute and even that was an easy collect.

Set piece crossing was very poor today, but live crossing from either wing panicked their defence and created numerous half chances and eventually our first goal.

Petty continues to impress with his work ethic and skill level, he would have been my MOM. Pace down either wing showed and there was some good interplay between Toffolo and Andrade. No-one had a bad game, some weren’t tested, Akinde missed one that your grandmother might have scored.

This squad is going to take some beating and when the counter-attacking football works it is good to watch and very effective.”

More views from the Match Thread:

Merthyr Imp: “My view of the game is that we looked like a team three points clear at the top of the division – simple as that.

A good team performance and the only criticism to be made is that, like against Macclesfield, we should have got more than two goals. We won this match on the wings as Cheltenham couldn’t cope with either Anderson or Andrade. We did everything but score early on in the second half – it really was only a matter of time before the first goal came.

Cheltenham defended well at times, especially in the first half but it says a lot that Vickers didn’t have a shot to save until a few minutes from the end.

I’d had my doubts when comparisons with the 1975/76 side were being made earlier on but now I’m beginning to wonder…

Now I’ve said that we’ll lose at Tranmere!”

JT_LCFC: “Tranmere will be a tough one especially after we developed a partial rivalry in the conference. There a decent side as well who may contest the top 7.

3 points yesterday was really fantastic and if we can get a point or 3 against Tranmere, these leaves us with 3 out of the next 4 at home.”

Sincilbanks: “Only for the first 5 or 10 minutes of each half did they look like turning it into a scrap, once we got it down and played after that we looked the much better team, creating chance after chance without really testing the keeper. I was beginning to think it would need a sub to come on and was suggesting McCarton for Green just before Harry T’s superb cross for the opener, once we scored it just needed to avoid making a mistake and the second duly arrived. Andrade gave another full-back a torrid day who could have had about 4 yellows before the hour mark and miraculously had none.

Terrific performance at times, just lacking the killer touch to “put them to the sword” earlier than we did…”
