“The Imps must be bold and positive in possession.”

|

Ahead of today’s match against Grimsby Town in Sky Bet League Two, we asked our members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what hulloutpost said:

1. This is Grimsby’s cup final despite what their fans may say and they will be up for it like no other game during the remainder of the season. Without a doubt they were the better side at Blundell Park, should have won on the day so the first priority without question is to match their energy and intensity head-on during the first phase of the match. If we don’t we risk them gaining sustainable momentum and growing confidence.

2. We know we have better players, they know we have better players and they will be out to make a point because of that. It is no good simply matching them for spirit and endeavour if we don’t then use our heads and make good in-game decisions. If we earn the right to play we then have to make sure that we are positive and do not get dragged simply into a battle. The Imps must be bold and positive in possession look to play where we can and be pragmatic when necessary. If we take the lead do not take a backwards step and have the belief to go on aiming to press home the advantage with further goals.

3. We absolutely must be looking for a clean sheet; another way of preventing them from gaining confidence. A clean sheet is long overdue and the quality of the defending for long periods in the games at Everton and Swindon are proof that our defence have the ability. We are lucky to have such an able deputy in Scott Wharton and if he is on his game can form a formidable partnership with Bossie. However, every player must be switched on to do their job and ensure there are few personal errors.
