“The Fat Lady may not be singing yet, but she is certainly exercising her vocal cords.”

|

Following Saturday’s 2-0 win away at Milton Keynes Dons in Sky Bet League Two, we asked our members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what berksimps said:

1. The Fat Lady may not be singing yet, but she is certainly exercising her vocal cords. Beating our nearest rivals this late in the season and away from home is a good indicator towards final placings. Eleven points clear with five games to go emphasises the position. Improbable maths may show it not to be 100% certain, but that is only delaying the inevitable. Promotion is a formality, and we are “Champions Elect”.

2. Having a resolute, tight defence provides the strong base from which games are not lost, and wins are achieved. The experienced Shacks and Bossie are at their best protecting the penalty area, ably supported at MKD by Gilksy, a loud, veteran keeper still capable of making world-class saves. Put O’Hara and Pett in front of them to tackle and prevent shots from distance and you have a formidable package that can quickly turn defence into attack.

3. You can have as much possession as you like, spread the ball about at will, but unless you test the opposition keeper, teams will not score goals. The difference at this stage of the season is being clinical; both Akinde and Andrade stepped up to their respective plates in this regard. This squad will stay hungry, even when the title is won, have no doubt about it. They all want to play for the managers, their team-mates and the fans. Those without contracts want to test themselves in League 1….. and with Lincoln City!

Is it good to be an Imp? ……………. Is the Pope a Catholic?

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
