Views from WellingtonImp following tonight’s 2-1 defeat away at Southampton in the League Cup: “No shame in this result. Southampton put out a side that would compete in a Premiership game. We’ve been excellent. Their first goal should not of stood, and we had a stonewall penalty that should have been given. We didn’t just set out to defend at all costs, but to bring the ball out and attack. A disappointing result but a fine effort. Well done City. Hold your heads high. UTI.”

clanford: “No disgrace at all tonight. Toe to toe with a full-strength Saints side and a performance to be proud of. Dust ourselves down enjoy a deserved Christmas and back to it at Burton. UTI.”
Imp13: “Brilliant performance.
Game settled by awful officials who rely on VAR. Wish they’d come out and explain themselves or admit the error. Instead they’ll be back in the Prem on Boxing Day. Hard job made harder by being inept.”
syimp: “Saw most of it and we were the better side in the second half. A fox in the box may have got on the end of sweet crosses from Poole and Vernam.
It is a real sickener to be robbed by the two dreadful decisions.”
Red Wimp: “From in the ground it looked offside and the handball looked clear so pleased to see it confirmed from those watching on video. If I can see why can’t the officials?
But proud of the efforts, gave it a good go at the end and if you ignore the two at the end when we were throwing everything forward they didn’t create much clear cut.
Their fans, well what a bunch of knobs.”
