Ahead of today’s match away at Shrewsbury Town in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

You can discuss what has been said in this article HERE, as well as get involved with our Shrewsbury Town v Lincoln City Match Thread, and our pre-match threads: You can post your score predictions, discuss the starting XI, and predict the attendance!

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Be at it from the kick-off. I don’t know if it’s just me but any game which kicks off around lunchtime seems to take such a long time to get going. I’m not just talking about Lincoln here just something in general. It’s not the natural kick-off time and I don’t know if that aspect has an affect upon players taking that bit of time to get going. Whatever the reason it is something that if we are aware of can be used in our favour by being aware of this, and realising that it will be the same for Shrewsbury as for us. They may take that little bit longer to get into their stride. If we are on our game from the first kick we could easily get an early goal which will be important tomorrow.

2. Pressure their defence. Looking back at the highlights of their win against Posh in the Cup, they do seem to get quite a few players forward when attacking, but are susceptible to defensive lapses. As many teams in our league do, they like to play it out from the back. Peterborough’s goal came as a direct result of this with Shrewsbury conceding possession just outside their own penalty area. Put that pressure on when they play like this and we will force errors.

3. Play the best XI available. Might seem like an obvious thing to say but after ten days off and with no midweek game coming up there should be no need to consider giving players a break for this game. That should mean Joe Walsh and Adam Jackson fill in at the back which makes us much more solid in those areas. It should mean a return for Mandriou (if fit) as he will be a key attacker for us this season. A game which is winnable if we play our strongest team.
