Ahead of tomorrow’s match at home against Sheffield Wednesday in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Cut down their shooting opportunities. Last week at Ipswich there was a clear tactic to restrict them to longer shots. It worked as evidenced by the clean sheet. As tactics go it’s a good one as fewer goals are scored from distance in matches. One team though to be mindful of using this approach against is Sheffield Wednesday. They have scored some pretty good long-range efforts in a number of games this season. All of them in a 3-0 win against Rochdale in the cup a few weeks back were 25-plus yards out. Josh Windass scored a 30yarder a couple of weeks ago. Barry Bannan can also hit the ball pretty sweetly. So we cannot afford to think that allowing them to have a pot shot from that distance will not trouble our keeper. They clearly will. Closing down from that distance will be necessary and a key part in getting three points.

2. Make the right decisions in the last third. I expect we will set up pretty similar to how we did for the last three games. That means we will be acting almost as the away team looking to take opportunities from counterattacks. When you use such tactics those key decisions in the last third are vital. Thinking back to the Charlton game the few chances that were made fell down due to poor choices made for the final ball. It frustrates supporters when better options are overlooked or a pass is just played so poorly that causes a chance to fall away. So our attacking players need to be switched on to get it right at those key points in the game.

3. Take advantage of any set-piece opportunities we have. Max Sanders, if selected, has started to put in some very useful corners. It led to our winner last week and the delivery he has is difficult for opposition defenders to deal with. Getting players in the right place in the box to take advantage of these set pieces will reap rewards and can be the difference between a win or draw/loss tomorrow.
