Lincoln City 2-0 Newcastle United U21s: Views & Stats

|

Views from clanford following the 2-0 win at home against Newcastle United U21s in the EFL Trophy: “Decided to go tonight father than do iFollow. Bit of a scrappy match but a comfortable win in the end.

Great to see both Danny and Freddie get off the mark. Will be a great weight off Freddie’s shoulders especially after missing a one-on-one. Danny has some great trucks in him but someone needs to tell him to look across the line. Lost count of how many times he was off. Having said that Freddie looked well offside for his goal but got away with it.

Good to see Walsh get some minutes and another appearance for Gallagher.

Ahui had a decent debut playing on the right side of a back 3. Inexperience showed at times but he looked confident and has certainly got pace.

Overall a decent game, £10k in the bank and into the next round. ”

Stevie_imp: “Happy with 2-0 but struggled to get into this tournament. Seems soulless being played in front of 1600. Reminds me too much of our non-league period.”

Warrington Imp: “Still in three cups as well and that is 4 defeats in 17 matches this season MK is making us very difficult to beat.”

Red Wimp: “Did they mention on commentary it was Duncan Ferguson’s lad up front? At first sight, I thought he would make a good loan signing, but he didn’t seem able to head a ball and they were more of a threat with the subs who played up front.

Nice to see 3 teenagers of our own on the field at the end. I think it’s a bit of a stretch for Ahui to play in L1 yet but would seem a more natural fit for wing-back if he can get a bit more experience.”

StrangelyBrown: “Not a bad game, not a great game. Controlled most of the play without always threatening, particularly first half. Second half we had more clear-cut chances. Three firsts tonight – 2 first club goals for Mandroiu and Draper and a debut start for Ahui (who I thought was MOTM).

Defence overall had a solid game- Sorensen played his CDM role with aplomb. Garrick again slightly disappointed first half but was better second. Mandroiu showed some really good touches and you can see the quality he has and will have when he adapts to L1 football.

Not bad for a tenner really- 2 goals, 3 “firsts” and a clean sheet. Not much more I can ask for!”
