Following Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat away at Rotherham United in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what syimp said:

1. Firstly, not to be afraid of the Big Bad Wolf.

In the first half, we seemed to be caught in the headlights by the top of the league team. They’re big and strong, but not great footballers, yet because we were passive and perhaps overwhelmed with their physicality, we froze mentally.

It’s patently obvious, but we need to hit the ground running.

2. If we had played with the same intensity of the second half, for the whole ninety minutes, we would have won with room to spare.

For a top-of-the-table team, Rotherham showed they currently have brittle confidence and we showed that no game is over until the overweight female opens her lungs, even against the supposed best that League One has to offer.

3. Thirdly and, in my opinion, most satisfyingly, we showed that despite the horrendous start, we hung in there, didn’t wilt, stuck our collective chin out, and took it to them in the second half. We didn’t give up. Another ten minutes and we’d have had at least a draw.
