Competitive matches between Lincoln and Ipswich have been very infrequent due to Ipswich’s surprisingly late arrival in the Football League and the different paths trodden by each club since the early 1960s. Hostilities were renewed after 56 years with the famous FA Cup tie in January 2017, since when Lincoln have won three and lost two of the seven fixtures to date. David Hill, Jamie Clapham, Richard Logan, Gary Croft, Lee Beevers, Mike Pollitt, Gareth McAuley, Scott Loach, Cameron Stewart, Danny (M) Rowe, Jordan Roberts, Mustapha Carayol, Callum Connolly, Jon Nolan, Tayo Edun and James Wilson have all appeared for both clubs since 1990. City assistant manager David Kerslake had a brief spell at Portman Road towards the end of his career, while Brennan Johnson’s father David scored 62 goals in 158 appearances for Ipswich between 1997 and 2001.
