How long have you supported Doncaster Rovers?

Supported since the early 1980s, regular attendance began in 1983/84.

Where did you finish last season?

9th.

What do you think of your manager?

Darren Moore is the main asset of the playing side of the club. He is arguably the best manager in the division and it is an added bonus that he was such a good player in his day for us. He ‘gets’ the ethos of the club completely and is a very fine manager with a very fine team around him to boot.

What are your hopes and expectations for the 2020/21 season?

Initially, I hoped we could make the playoffs – now I see no reason why the auto-promotion places can’t be achieved.

One(s) to watch?

Tom Anderson, Taylor Richards and Josh Sims – I am really looking forward to seeing how John Bostock does long term.

Which teams you think will finish in the top six in League One?

I think the top six will stay as they are (though not necessarily in the current order) but Sunderland could push Charlton all the way.

Which teams do you think will finish in the bottom four in League One?

I think the bottom four will be Burton, Swindon, AFC Wimbledon and Rochdale.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

Pleased to see them doing so well, I had a lot of dealings with Liam Scully while he was at Rovers through work, Rovers in the Community and my role as a member of the VSC Board and Supporters’ Board at DRFC. I am glad you are right at the top end of the table as you have always been, in my eyes, one of our local rivals to get one over. I wish you well for the rest of the season, after this game obviously.

What do you think the score will be?

2-0 win for Rovers.

Random fact about your Club?

I have had 5 school football teams from 3 different schools win the DRFC leg of the Kindersport+ Cup and have then gone on to represent DRFC in the Northern Finals.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

I have always been a fan of Liam Bridcutt. But if we had to pinch one, I’d go for Lewis Montsma – which team wouldn’t want a model on their books? Lol.

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Doncaster Rovers supporter?

The proudest moment for me at the club – I was heavily involved in organising some of the celebrations for James Coppjnger’s testimonial season – the guy is a legend we have been blessed to have him with us for so long.

Embarrassing – I had a season as Matchday Stadium Announcer and got into trouble from Sky for ranting, raving and using rather inappropriate language at the ref within earshot and mic pick-up of Sky’s live commentator for the day on a day where rovers were one of the Championship’s featured games.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Probably Brad Halliday – he got some unwarranted stick in his early days on social media – and now he has become a vital cog in the wheel.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

Rovers have one of the most highly regarded Supporters’ Trusts in the country – The Viking Supporters Cooperative (VSC). They meet regularly with the Board of the club. They work with local charities and other worthwhile organisations. They operate an independent forum. They represent the supporters (whether they are VDC members or not) and enable the views of the supporters to inform the board. They sponsor players every season. In recent years they have helped get an Asset of Community Value placed on the Keepmoat Stadium. They guided the local council on naming the streets on the housing estate built on the site of the old Belle View Stadium. They created a mobile teaching tool/tribute to former Rovers player, comedian and black icon, Charlie Williams. They have done so much good for the club since their inception in the fall out of the Ken Richardson ownership scandal that it is impossible to list everything here. They are held up as an example of Supporters Trust best practise in this country and I am proud to have sat on the board of the VSC in the past.

Which was your favourite match involving Doncaster Rovers?

My favourite was the 2002/03 Football Conference Play-off Final at Stoke’s Brittania Stadium. The golden goal/promotion goal from (Sir) Francis Tierney meant we were back in the league, we had survived and we were ready to build again – from then on in it’s been pretty much an amazing time to be a Rovers fan.

Which was your least favourite match involving Doncaster Rovers?

My least favourite and favourite games are intrinsically linked. The least favourite was the final home game of the 1997/98 season – a 1-0 loss to Colchester that most fans felt would be our last ever game as a club. That was the end of the worst season in history of pretty much any football club and e thought the club was dead and would never return.

Do you have a Former Players Association at Doncaster Rovers?

Not to my knowledge, we don’t, but I may be wrong, many former players have continued to be involved in some capacity at DRFC long after they have finished playing with us – there seems to be something about DRFC that gets into their heads and hearts.

What is the best thing about Doncaster?

Doncaster itself – bizarrely I like the fact that are a lot more open/green spaces all over the Borough that are great for dog walking, cycling and outdoor exercise than we perhaps realise. It is important these places stay where they are especially as many are on the old coal mine sites that defined the town (along with the plant works) for so many years.
