Portsmouth 2-1 Lincoln City: Post-Match Views & Stats

|

Views from clanfordimp following the 2-1 defeat away at Portsmouth in League One: “Well, all in all, a pretty decent performance.

Two mistakes cost us the game and it was a pity we couldn’t have held on to the lead longer to put some doubt into their minds. Having said that we should have had an equaliser at the death but there’s your difference in getting nothing or getting a point.

Didn’t really create a lot in open play but there were one or two moments and we played a lot better than I expected so fair play for that.

Portsmouth are a decent side but nothing special and if they are where the bar is set then there will be a lot of teams battling it out for them top slots this season.

Beating Cheltenham next week is very important. They are the current whipping boys of this league and we need those 3 points in the bag.”

More views from the Match Thread:

LA_Imp: “Unlucky today. Portsmouth are a good team and I’m confident they will get promoted. We are three key players out but we are well-drilled and will be fine. Just a shame we can’t quite get a few more points on the board. Portsmouth were very relieved to hear the whistle. That tells you everything. Stay safe Imps and enjoy the rest of your weekend.”

PortMacImp: “Portsmouth would be relieved to get a win from that game as the Imps battled well and created the better second half chances. Our midfield is so improved this season and once we get some forwards back we will be a force. Good intriguing game to watch.”

Merthyr Imp: “Back home an hour late due to train cancellation and this is the first chance I’ve had to put a few thoughts on here. Haven’t read the rest of the thread or anything else yet but looked at the two-minute highlights.

Well, we could have got a draw even if we didn’t necessarily deserve one, if that make sense. But we gave Portsmouth a game and in the second half there were scrambles at both ends and we could just as easily have scored as they could.

Well done to Adelakun for the goal, which from behind the goal seemed cleaner struck than it does on the highlights.

3-5-2 from the start, it went to 5-4-1 while we were in front and then level, but their first goal was the killer following a poor header by Sorensen, who otherwise had a good game. Burroughs was my man of the match even though he was beaten by Poole for the goal, and it did look as though Jensen should have gone for the cross.

Disappointment was Bishop who we hardly saw in the first half.

Desperate stuff late on, with O’Connor thrown up front – and we would have been worth a goal. If only Jackson had kept his shot down…”
