Following last night’s 2-0 win away at Notts County in the First Round of the League Cup, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learnt from the match. You can vote for your Man of The Match at the bottom of the page!

QUIZ: Have a go at our quiz about last season’s match versus Bolton Wanderers (a). You can do this here!

Here’s what libertine said:

1. Ali Smith is capable of starting our counter-attacks before the opposition have reached the halfway line. There’s no need to sit too deep with a player like him in the team, and he seems like the sort of player who will compliment both Hamilton and Erhahon. An exciting prospect for the season ahead.

2. The team trusts Lasse Sorensen far more as a right-wing back than they ever did as a central midfielder. I remember seeing players bypass him in the early stages of last season, but now playing him in on the corner of the area seems to be one of our main attacking intentions. He has proven that his goalscoring streak towards the end of last season is no fluke too. An absolute must for a contract extension if his expires at the end of the current season.

3. Tyler Walker CAN press. He might not be the ‘lone presser’ as Ben House so often was last season, but he is more than capable of hunting in a pack alongside the likes of Smith, Mandroiu and Hackett. There were so many occasions where we forced Notts County to give up possession in dangerous areas. It was also a bonus that he was able to win a few headers and play some valuable minutes.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
