Lincoln manager Keith Alexander’s search for a new striker goes on after conceding defeat in the race to sign Macclesfield striker Jon Parkin.

The Moss Rose targetman is one of a number of players targeted by Alexander to pep up City’s goal-shy attack, but the Imps boss has admitted that the club can’t afford the former York City man’s wages, which are believed to be in the region of £1,500 per week.

‘Parkin’s wages instantly put me off, Alexander told the Lincolnshire Echo. ‘There is no way we would be able to afford them.

‘He’s a good player, but he is way out of our league on that sort of money.’

And there was more misery for the Imps boss after another target, Rushden & Diamonds striker Drewe Broughton, rejected the chance to join the Imps on loan.

Broughton, who has just completed a three-match ban after his second sending-off this season, turned down the opportunity for a spell at Sincil Bank after telling Alexander he wanted to stay at Nene Park and get regain his fitness after a spell on the sidelines.

‘Broughton said he wanted to stay at Rushden because he felt he would not be match fit straight away,’ added Alexander.

‘I applaud him for his honesty.’
