Before the short trip to Doncaster, Michael Appleton took the opportunity to catch up on the current injury situation, before looking ahead to his aims for the January transfer window.

Injury Update: MA in overview was of the opinion that the Imps are in slightly better shape coming out of the international break than they were going into it. Anthony Scully and Liam Bridcutt have both recently returned to training and are available for selection. MA will make the call on whether they start at Doncaster with a weather eye on the busy fixture schedule over the next six or seven weeks.

The same caution will be applied to Cohen Bramall who has an ankle niggle and Teddy Bishop who is feeling a slight hamstring strain. Both are rated 50/50 but the good news is that the scan on Teddy’s hamstring didn’t reveal anything so it is not something that will keep him out for a run of games.

Digressing slightly, Lewis Fiorini and Sean Roughan have both returned from playing full minutes this week for their nations. Due to travelling and recovery management, they will not train properly until Friday. Both have had good weeks and return full of confidence, which they now need to continue within the club environment.

So far as game management goes, due to the schedule, MA won’t be doing anything much different. The players will follow individual training plans based upon their condition and minutes played. This will ensure that even if players need to be brought in at short notice they will be ready to go.

Doncaster Rovers: MA recognised Doncaster have struggled this season so far, but wasn’t being complacent as their home form is actually decent, having more problems with away results.

“It’s clearly going to be a tough game because obviously, they’ve not made a start they would want or expect”.

January Transfer Window: MA is not losing sight of the number of games between now and January. As such it is an important period as the club need to accumulate as many points as possible between now and then to ensure the Imps approach the window in a strong position to improve the squad.

He feels it is fair to say he can be confident that early signings will be made, based upon the amount of work and effort that has gone into that aim. Whilst he can never be 100% confident about stating the full extent of the early signings, MA is very keen to avoid the scenario of hanging onto last-minute deals as we saw in the Summer.

“The one thing I can guarantee is that the squad will be a lot stronger come January the second”.
