Michael Appleton: “Saturday sort of proved that we’re more than capable.”

Michael Appleton provided a short update ahead of the midweek clash away at Wigan Athletic, following the 1-1 draw away at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday: MA spoke positively of the Imp’s chances to compete against the so-called big clubs in the division (based on money spent and perception of club size) following the Saturday performance against the Owls.

“I thought Saturday we were excellent. They pretty much scored with their first opportunity; a little bit fortunate to say the least as well”.

MA was pleased with how the players dealt with a ten-minute spell of Wednesday dominance following the goal, before the Imps came strong again to put in a commendable performance.

Wigan Athletic: MA responded to a query regarding the Wigan front four by highlighting that they all had a great experience at either the top of League 1 and/or Championship level. Collectively the Wigan forwards have a little bit of everything between them. Their manager has been backed well financially and is doing well.

“I know we’ve got a bit of a job on our hands but I think… Saturday sort of proved that we’re more than capable, certainly on our day of beating anyone”.

Injury wise there are no new major issues. MA does have to be mindful about game management for Adam Jackson though; partly down to the run of midweek fixtures in conjunction with the further injury to Joe Walsh having left the side a little short in the centre back area.
