Michael Appleton: “It’s a very, very strong league this year, probably much stronger than it was last year.”

Michael Appleton hinted at how the squad may be shaped over the coming weeks, during his pre-match assessment of the Wycombe Wanderers game.

You can discuss what Michael Appleton said earlier today HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum!

TJ Eyoma: MA provided an encouraging health report following the player’s return to the club. TJ is a robust individual who always trains and makes himself available. Although recovering from an injury he is reasonably sharp. He’s not quite ready for 90 minutes yet, but nor is he far away.

Squad Structuring: Max Melbourne has done himself no harm with his performances, whilst also providing left-sided balance. TJ and Lewis Montsma provide good options and MM position will be looked at over the next few days along with some other players. There is consideration to James Jones, Remi Longdon, and possibly Max Melbourne (depending on injuries within the squad so far as the latter is concerned) going out, primarily with a view to being on loan.

MA never stands in the way of players getting better opportunities elsewhere and if players can get a run of 20/30 games elsewhere that is a good thing. He also has to consider balancing the books:

“If you think you can free up cash to go and strengthen in a real positive way; the opportunity to bring goals or assists into the squad then obviously we’ll Look at that”.

Wycombe: MA fully expects Wycombe to have a top-six finish this season and looking at their squad can understand why they only narrowly missed out on retaining Championship status last year. As usual, he will be looking to win the match but any point on the road in L1 this year is a welcome point.

“They’ve got quite a unique style…..going with three at the back or five at the back…….The front three have been quite dangerous……They’ve got a Hell of a lot of options”.

Competitive League 1: “I think you’ve seen already how strong the league is……….It’s a very, very strong league this year, probably much stronger than it was last year. We know the task ahead, it’s going to be difficult but we’re going there to give them a right good game hopefully”.
